The Search

After I completed sobbing at the joy of having a puppy of our own and the fact that Dave had completely surprised me, Dave asked "what are you going to name him...Cricut?" Oh, so it's a boy, and no, not Cricut. You see, I love to scrapbook and ever since the Cricut personal cutting machine has been available, I have been a big fan. Currently I own three Cricut machines and over a hundred cartridges. See my companion blog "4LuvOfScrapbooking" for blogs about that part of my life. Okay, so back to the name. Suddenly a name popped into my head. Cricky (rhymes with Ricky). I like it! As I tried saying it out loud I liked it more. Even Dave liked it, so Cricky it is.

As I cuddle my new puppy, Dave fills in the details. Cricky is a 9-week-old Yorkshire Terrier that currently weighs less than 2 pounds and won't get over 7 pounds as an adult.  I am enthralled with his cute little face, the fur in shades of black, tan, & white. Although his body and legs are mostly black, his belly is splotched with all three colors.

SURPRISE!!

When I looked at the clock it said 4:25 AM. Way too early to get up, but I had to get some water to drink down my pain meds. A week since the second surgery to correct the numbness in my right foot & ankle and the pain has woke me up once again. I really don't want to get up, but I have no choice. I am connected to a wound vacumm device that pumps out the fluids in my incision. Since I'm only going to be a few minutes, I disconnect the tubing and turn off the pump rather than dragging the whole device with me. It is always difficult to backup my knee scooter on the carpeted floor, but I do it as quietly as possible to avoid waking Dave.

While I am in the bathroom, I notice there are lights on in the kitchen area. Strange, I don't think I had left them on when I came to bed last night. As I roll up the hall I see that the three pendant lights are lit, then there is Dave standing in the kitchen as I round the corner! At the same time I see something moving on the floor then Dave bends down, picks it up, holds the warm, furry object against my chest as he says "Happy Birthday, my love!"  It's a puppy!!!  When he had first given me the puppy I had thought it was my granddaughter's chihuahua Gizmo, but soon realized it was something completely different because as it squirmed and licked my face I realized that the puppy had a docked tail. I was initially sad that my new puppy wasn't a chihuahua, but as I sobbed in my husband's arms, I didn't care! He had surprised me all right. Number one, it wasn't quite my birthday for another 9 days. Number two, a dog? Gizmo was just the cutest little puppy and we had both feel in love with him from the start. Whenever Ashley was working and we had Anthony, we borrowed Gizmo for a few hours of fun. Even though, we had discussed many times that it would be really hard to have a dog when we still liked to travel frequently. It just wouldn't work to have to leave the dog in the motorhome all day while we hiked in places that dogs weren't allowed. Sometimes even we wouldn't have electrical hook-ups and the motorhome could get really hot inside during sunny days.  Also, we have just moved into our newly built home and are aware how destructive dogs (pets) can be on floors, carpets, woodwork, and more. Yes, my dear, you have really surprised me!
